"Exult, let them exult, the hosts of heaven, exult, let Angel ministers of God exult, let the trumpet of salvation sound aloud our mighty King's triumph! Be glad, let earth be glad, as glory floods her, ablaze with light from her eternal King, let all corners of the earth be glad, knowing an end to gloom and darkness."

The Easter Proclamation, or Exsultet, is the triumphant hymn of praise that proclaims "Christ is Risen!" during the Easter Vigil in the Roman Rite. This sacramental moment, which makes present the promise and joy of the great feast of Easter, can be further enhanced by a unique new ritual book: The Easter Proclamation. This lavishly illuminated volume offers the chant found in the revised edition of the Roman Missal augmented with magnificent illustrations. Artist Charles Rohrbacher, deacon of the Diocese of Juneau, has written icons that depict the text of the Exsultet. A decorative cover with gold stamping is ideally suited to be carried in procession as well as to be enthroned following the Easter Vigil.

Reviews

I warmly recommend this book. It is a worthy work that can enhance the singing of the exsultet and increase our appreciation for its richness. It also offers an inspiring example of how the visual arts and the musical arts can reinforce one another during times of high festivity. Charles Rohrbacher is to be commended not only for giving us his own fine work, but also for giving us an example that others might emulate.

This is a marvelous publication. Charles Rohrbacher, an iconographer from the diocese of Juneau, is the artist. Having the Exsultet in it's own liturgical book is a brilliant idea. I plan to enshrine the copy, I ordered for the parish, near the Paschal candle during the season of Easter.
