The liturgical reform initiated by Pope Paul VI restored the Eucharist to its proper place in the spiritual lives of the People of God. By returning to the early celebration of the first centuries, prior to the development and reinterpretations of the Middle Ages, we are able to see again "the Mass of the ages" in the simplicity of its origins.

Through the course of centuries, thanks to the influence of a curious idea, of pagan rather than Gospel origin, about the Mass being a holy secret, it became locked up in the sanctuary of the church. It was celebrated there for the people but without them, in their name and in their place, facing away from them, in a low voice and in a language they did not understand. It was confiscated as something exclusively for "the clergy." The veil of the temple, torn open at the death of Jesus, was restored to its place.

The Mass of Paul VI is the Mass of all people and the entire Church, because it is an act of thanksgiving offered by Christ and by all those who make up his body. It never belongs to a small group, but is always the Mass celebrated by the Pope and all the bishops throughout the world. Ultimately, it is offered to the Father, through the Son and with him, for the life of the entire world.
